  • Morroccan Berber hair ornament / ring from the Ait Akka tribe, a Berber tribal group in the Atlas Mountain region. Design and construction resembles miniature shrines, but also weaponry. These rings were worn in the headdress, suspended on either side of the temples, or straddling the crown of the head. Sometimes the woman put inside tufts of wool saturated in scented oils to be surrounded by fragrance. But here, the cubical chamber held a coranic sura (see photo).
