• Ivory comb from Tchokwe people
  • Africa
  • Congo (Democratic Republic)
  • Width : 1 3/4 inch
  • Height : 5 1/8 inch
  • Depth : 1/4 inch
  • Carved out of ivory, this comb depicts two birds with their beaks joining into a vase. This motif, rather frequent in the Tchokwe sculpture could be linked with protecting spirits. The reddish colour probably comes from natural dyes.
