African Mambila Tadep ceremonial Comb with figure. Combs such as this one were also used as ceremonial prestige objects. The gesture of both hands to chin in Mambila sculpture is characteristic of tadep figure connected with a healing association called Suaga. Tadep figures are thought to embody ancestors who, according to Mambila beliefs, are responsible for the clan's wealth. Nicely carved carved figure with glossy dark brown patina.
