- Mamuli ornaments are among the most important Sumbanese gold objects. When Sumbanese natives practiced ear elongation, they were worn as earrings. Today, this practice has fallen out of favor; yet mamuli continue to be worn, now as pendants or attached to headdresses. The form is said to represent stylized female genitalia. They are generally made of gold, silver or brass and often embellished with fine filigree and granulation.
